Cole started his new medication last week. It will take 6 weeks to get to the therapeutic dose...if you go "up" to fast on the dose, a child can get a life threatening rash...if he gets the rash, he will need to stop taking it immediate & of course go to the ER. After we get to the therapeutic dose & he is tolerating it well...THEN WE CAN START WEANING THE KEPPRA (which will take about 3 weeks to wean). We are looking at about 9 weeks (plus the dr said the Keppra won't be out of his system for 2 weeks after stopping it)...so it will be about the end of May until we get relief from the craziness & frustration of the awful "Keppra Rage". I am REALLY praying that Cole will tolerate the new medication & that it will be a good transition...I am praying even more that once the Keppra is removed, that he will be nicer!!! ...and hopefully this will be his last seizure med...which we can't start weaning until the end of 2013 (if all is well with the "S's" at bay).
